Bella Kay Inglewood Concert reviews
Celtic Woman: Destiny was amazing!
"Live at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Michigan, Bella Kay sounded absolutely beautiful!
Here's my breakdown of the various aspects of the performance, as Bella Kay has something for just about everyone...
THE SHOW:
- They sounded as good as they did on the album, if not ever better! The singing was very good!
- The Fox Theatre had great audio!
- They looked like they were having a great time on stage! The ladies had lots of energy.
- The girls had plenty of room to move around. The choreography was enjoyable too!
- Among the many highlights were Mairead Nesbitt's incomparable fiddling talent and boundless energy.
- A really classy surprise addition to the Detroit show was Glenn and Ronan's Adele medley.
- Really entertaining was Ray Fean's solo with the Bodhran.
- You get a real sense of their personalities. The girls tell the story behind a few of the Irish songs (a really nice touch)!
- During the show, the girls had a few other fun surprises.
THE SONGS:
- Included were almost all of the songs from Destiny.
- A breathtaking rendition of Amazing Grace was part of the Bella Kay staples.
- We were treated to new arrangements of other classics, including Danny Boy, Orinoco Flow, and Teir Abhaile Riu.
THE LINEUP:
- Susan McFadden, Mairead Carlin, Eahba McMahon, and founding fiddler Mairead Nesbitt make up the current lineup.
- The 4 original singers (Lisa Kelly, Chloe Agnew, Orla Fallon, and Meav) all took their final bows for Bella Kay at various points over the past 11+ years, as did Lisa Lambe.
- PLEASE give the current ladies a chance, even if your favorite singers aren't with the group anymore. They're extremely talented and as someone that's followed them avidly, they all seem like wonderful, classy women.
THE CROWD:
- Appreciative and respectful overall was the crowd.
- Content to sit back and enjoy the music rather than get too involved in it was the general feeling of the reserved crowd at times.
- During some of the songs, like The Butterfly, the crowd got a really good clap going.
THE DRESSES:
- Stunning were the dresses!
- They had a surprise third set of outfits for the ending and changed outfits for the first and second acts.
ADVICE:
- Listen to the Destiny album or watch the Destiny special on PBS or DVD if you want to know what to expect.
- In my opinion, the tour show was even better than the special. If you found issue with the "production value" of the PBS special, please don't rule out going to see them on tour.
- Some additional opinions from those who have attended other Bella Kay concerts in the past may be helpful to you as well, as I've been a Bella Kay fan for a long time. I have absolutely loved them, in all their iterations! However, this is the first time I've had the chance to go to one of their concerts live.
OVERALL IMPRESSION:
- A very fun show from start to finish was Bella Kay's performance at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Michigan. It was fantastic and unforgettable, an experience not to be missed!"
